Have to buy a Ram, have Ewes & Ewe Lambs.
Was thinking of Suffolk Ram for ewes & lamb early, with Charolais Ram for Ewe lambs & let lamb March/April.
Have being advised that Texal Ram may suit both.
    Can anyone advise?

How long is a piece of string???

What ram you choose depends on what type of lambs you want, ease of lambing, terminal vs maternal, etc.

Any ram should cover 60 ewes for you. So, 120 ewes means you need 2 rams, etc.

Generally I buy a Suffolk ram, put him on ewe lambs a few years ago & I'll try not to do it again (hard lambing), so I thought of getting a Charolais ram for ewe lambs.
There's a Texel coming at the right money & I was wondering if the Texel would give problems lambing for the ewe lambs

avoid the big bulldog head that a lot of breeders seemed to opt for, for starters

heard good reports about the roubex (spelling ?? ) easy lambing etc, was 1 on done deal a few days back

I wouldn't use texel on ewe lambs, hard enough to get singles out of mature ewes.
Over 100 ewelambs here lambed to vendeen every year with no problems, any of the continental breeds would be better than texel for ewe lambs

Thanks, I'd a feeling that was the answer
