Would anyone have a clue as to what the VRT would be on an R35 GTR, it's not on the vrt website and I rang them and they just told me to import it and then they will tell me a price the but God only knows what they would charge then..

I know it would be about 32% of the OMSP but just would not have a clue what they would value one at.. If anyone knew of someone that has brought one in lately any info would be great..

    Thanks

find the highest price one with similar year/mileage on autotrader uk, take 36% of that asking price and thats probably what you'll pay.

Very hard to risk bringing it in and getting a big surprise. At a guess if you go by the UK price of about £40k/€48k and take 32% of that which is optimistic your looking at about €15k. The €2350 a year motor tax would kill me after paying that much in VRT, would you not consider something like a new Golf R instead?

If anyone has imported one before, wouldn't it be on the calculator?

There are no skylines on the import or export calculator, even if you say it was originally reg in Japan you get no skyline option of any description.

carzone have a garage that recently sold a 2009 one, no price listed but it might be worth contacting them for an idea of price:

Yea this is what I was trying to base my cost on but you just never know with the ***** could value the car at €60k no prob..

As for a Golf R I would not touch one, I have a modded E92 M3 at the mo and I love it and went and test drive a Golf R and it didn't do much for me and I walked past it on the way into the showroom didn't even know it was an R.. Just a Golf with 300 bhp does not appeal to me..

Also I'm paying €1800 tax at the mo so in used to the ****e tax rates, might not use this as a daily driver also..

Bear in mind though that you may end up paying the highest rate of VRT but you can challenge this in writing and explain your reasoning afterwards.

It is a PIA coughing up the full amount but if you work hard at the challenge letter you will get some money back.

Its worked a couple of times for me....

Kudos to you for bringing one in...Fantastic cars and id love to see more on Irish soil.

As for comparing it to a Golf R id go hand your man card into the desk............

Why bother with an R sure, when you could get a diesel for even less money with chaper tax..

Good luck bringing in a gtr op, please, please keep us updated if you do.

With the way VRT is calculated, the rates are very misleading because the OMSP is inclusive of VRT. For a VRT rate of 36%, you need to add 56% to the underlying price of the car. And when you account for UK VAT being 3% less than Ireland's rate, you actually need to add 60% to the price of a UK car to get its equivalent price for Ireland.

Was onto a guy today that paid €21400 VRT on a 2009 GTR which is absolutely scandalous.. I was hoping to get one in for €60k approx but looking more like €70k now..

So it's either a C63 Coupe, F10 M5 or hold off for a few months and save for a GTR.. Such a pack of robbing c*^%s

Cheapest way would be to buy one already here.

There's a document on the ros VRT site that details how the VRT is calculated. You'd be paying 36% of what they deem the omsp.

You get 5 cars from uk and 5 from here, which are advertised in industry magazines to get a average price.
Then you get a ratio between the two and apply that to the Irish average I think.

For the gtr you may need to use their depreciation tables to figure it out , you need the original retail price to begin with.

Tbh 21k sounds about right. I wonder if you got in touch with a politician outlining the contribution to the exchequer they will miss out on unless they gave you a reasonable quote.
    Might work out for you.

There is one around cork the last few months was brought in i believe there is a 2012 M5 for sale in clonakilty for 55k.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,363 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

That's way too cheap for a 2012 M5 unless it doesn't include VRT.

This is around the asking price of a 2012 M5:

Why are we comparing a Golf R to a R35 GTR?

Mental car, one of the few that genuinely scare me. I would look at how you are going to maintain it if you do bring one in, they are highly strung and need a great deal of care and attention. The service intervals are fairly short from memory and they need a specialist. The fluids alone are serious money, all synthetics and lots of it. Tyres should ideally be run on nitrogen, I knew a guy in the US with a small tank of it in the boot :pac:

Serious presence and plenty of go:

No point i doubt getting in contact with anyone you just have to suck it up and pay it, the guy that paid the €21400 is contesting it and should know very soon if he will get anything back out of it..

You can actually import an F10 M5 for approx €55k from the uk now..

I was not comparing them as such but for 5 mins thought i might buy one for 300bhp and cheap tax but i just know i would get bored of it.. As for servicing i i have mates that have a garage here and in the uk that deal in supercars and they would get it serviced for me either themselves or bring it to Litchfields... Also i would be doing very little milage with it..

They actually only brought in an Aventador SV for an Irish customer lately

Just did a google search myself, considering getting one but cannot get a price on the vrt website. I’m interested to hear if you went ahead with the GTR and what the costs were? Thanks
