    Hi all,

I have a PVC window here that does not meet the seal on the frame when it is closed, it's fairly tight when it closes I live on a busy road so road noise had become an issue. See attached picture. Thanks

Edit: ignore title thread posted on my phone.

If its "fairly tight when it closes" then whats the problem? or am I reading your post wrong? I assume the pic isnt showing it closed?

If there are gaps then you you will need the hinges adjusted or worse case scenario, replaced.

Yes the picture is showing the window closed, it is big enough gap. It is a rented house so I am limited to what I can do with it.

Wow! There must be some blast of air blowing through that never mind the noise.

Depending on the terms of your tenancy that should be up to the landlord to sort that. In fact Id be fairly sure that all such cases would be the landlords responsibility.

Failing that you would have to get someone knowledgeable in these matters to visit, have a look and decide if the hinges can be adjusted or if they need replacing.

Whereabouts are you anyhow? I ask so as others might be able to recommend someone in your area as Im in Donegal and doubt if thats much use to you.

Can you post a picture of the window further back? Hard to tell from that picture. Most likely hinges are broken though

I know the landlord wont fix it only wasting my breath. How would I tell if the hinges can be adjusted http://www.handlestore.com/h05-16-side-hung-pair-egress-window-hinges these are the hinges by the way. If the can't be adjusted could I get a bit of draught seal and run it along the seal?

I am based in Dublin other side of the country basically :D

Not my area of expertise but with any hinge there is a very limited amount of adjustment that can be done. After that you are into either re-positioning the hinges or a straight replacement which is always advisable.

The draught seal stuff work on compression, I wouldn't be convinced it would make much difference considering the size of the gap

I'd definitely try the landlord route, but if he won't budge at all, might be worth 25 or 30 on a new set of hinges. Should be easy to fit if you're any way handy.

Is it only that one window that's affected

Impossible to tell what is wrong here with just that picture.
we need to see the handle position while closed and the hinges when open.
Having said that the opening is probably a bonus given the evidence of clothes drying

There is no adjustment on Pvc window hinges. The only thing is to replace you will need to get the right hinges as in the length and stack height to suit your windows.as not all hinges are the same

Luckily I am on the ground floor so I can push the window in from the outside which helps a lot. I have two big windows on either side I will just the bad one close. Nothing else I can do, I am only a new tenant so I wont be fixing anything myself.
