Bradley Walsh begins a new quiz show from Monday 1st August on ITV at 5pm.

Hosted by ITV Daytime favourite Bradley Walsh, Cash Trapped is a brand new big money quiz show with a wicked twist: nobody leaves until somebody wins.

The 10-part series, that is based on an original idea by Bradley Walsh himself, sees six contestants battle it out across a series of fast paced question rounds where the players must actively try to sabotage their opponents by beating them to the buzzer and trapping them out of the game.

In the final round of each episode, the contestant who has earned the most cash will go head to head against the rest of the group to try and take their winnings home.

If a contestant succeeds, they escape with all the cash they've built up, while their five opponents leave empty handed. However if they fail to escape their bank is drained and everyone else rolls their winnings over. Then they all remain ‘Cash Trapped’ until the next episode.

It's become a tradition for ITV to give the Chase a rest during the summer and try out new game shows in the 5pm slot.

In the summer of 2012 they tried out a certain show featuring a coin-pusher machine, followed by Don't Blow the Inheritance with Tim Vine. In 2013, they put faith in Julia Bradbury and a bunch of multi-coloured egg timer thingies.

In 2014 Gethin Jones asked the 21st Question, before Mr and Mrs Eamonn Holmes hosted a quiz strictly for engaged couples.

And in 2015, the idea of a game show based around air hockey and curling came to light in Freeze Out, as well as the idea of a game show based around (er) a rebounding bar in (um) Rebound. :o:D

It's probably fair to say that ITV haven't had much success with these shows. Tipping Point is, of course, the only one so far to have been genuinely successful, while Rebound is the only other one to have been commissioned for a second series.

Everyone hated Take on the Twisters, and it actually wouldn't be all that unreasonable to suggest that its format was cobbled together in an afternoon. Only slightly less people hated Freeze Out - its format was better than that of TOTT but inevitably drew comparisons with that of Tipping Point, while Mark Durden-Smith has never been a very popular presenter and the casting of former Premier League referee Uriah Rennie as the "Ice Judge" was totally unnecessary.

Gift Wrapped didn't quite attract so much ire, but that's probably because it was more boring than anything else. Those who weren't quite so bored asked, "Did it really need two hosts?" The 21st Question wasn't anywhere near as boring, but its pace was still too slow for casual viewers, who might also have been irritated by Gethin's presenting style. (Game show fans didn't seem to mind either of these - but, of course, the casual viewers are more important to TV executives these days.)

As for Don't Blow the Inheritance, it's quite surprising that this one didn't do enough to be recommissioned. Its format may not have been perfect, but it certainly wasn't rubbish either. And doesn't everyone like Tim?

It will be interesting, therefore, to see how well Cash Trapped does - as well as Alphabetical with Jeff Stelling, which will air later in August. And for both shows, there's also the small matter of the Olympics...

Can't take to this show at all. Anyone else watching? Boring and laboured.

What was that game show presented by Nick Hancock, where the contestants stood on a type of running track?

    Breakaway!

    I quite liked that one.

Haven't seen Cash Trapped yet, God only knows who has the Irish rights to show it.

Just couldn't get into this. It's as exciting as a Muslim stag do. Finishes this week to make way for Alphabetical with Jeff Sterling from next Monday at 5pm.

I gave up on it already. I watch Pointless now instead!

I guess the interest in Cash Trapped on here is now officially zero... :o;)

It's not the greatest show Brad's ever done, of course - but most episodes have attracted around two million viewers, so it's obviously considered an acceptable Chase replacement.

And it's certainly better than Babushka... :D
