New TV - Freesat setup

    Hi,

I currently have a standard 32 inch tv and saorview combi box Triax TSC114 but I think both are showing their age so in need of a new setup. The EPG on the Triax is poor and it also deletes channels/has loads of duplicates that I can't delete so not ideal.

Can anyone offer any advice on the best new setup I can get whether that's a saorview/freesat tv or a saorview tv and the best freesat box. Internet speed in my area is poor so streaming not an option and I'd like something reliable and updated regularly with minimum maintenance. I have a PS3 for netflix and that can be laggy at times.

A potential spanner in the works and what prompted this is I'm with eircom and have access to eir sport now and while streaming isn't good I can get it on tv but from what I read only through an old sky box which may result in having two boxes, one especially for sport channels and then a good freesat. I know a sky box would work with freesat but I don't think it's very user friendly with all the channels mixed together, ones I have access to and ones I don't

Sorry for the long post but any tv, box and general setup suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you want the Satellite HD sports channels from eir then you need a Sky HD box, not any old Sky box, unfortunately, as I found out yesterday.
The SD channels are just not good enough for sports on a 32" TV.
I don't have a HD Sky box so have no idea how limited it is regarding listing channels in the order you might want. Probably even worse than you expect :(

Thanks for the reply, I think it's a good deal considering the only viable broadband for me is eircom so think I'll probably need a sky box and another freesat box too.

I remember my parents had a sky box in the sitting room but the channel was listed in number order so the channels you have and don't are mixed together which is a nightmare when you see something you'd like to watch only to realise you don't have the channel. :o There is a favourite list you can use but can only have a limited number anyway and no recording function unless you're subscribed either.

My experience of SKy boxes is non-existent, except for playing about yesterday & this am. It was not a pleasant experience.
I suppose you could use the freesat box for everything except the eir sports channels, and have them both feeding the TV through two HDMI cables, and switch from one to the other via TV source. That way the Sky box could remain at the eir channels permanently (it does power up with last channel accessed I suppose?).

    i
Power City have a Sony 40 inch with Saorview Record through external drive for €400 .

Humax Freesat PVR is €252 from freetv.ie

Used SKY HD box for €55.00 also from freetv.ie

    And you're sorted.
