Going to book something this weekend.
In or around 17th September for 10 nights
Looking for some warmth, maybe more local vibe rather than very touristy
    2 adults and young baby
I like the idea of somewhere in southern Spain but when I visited the travel agent they were trying to push resorts like torremolinos etc
    Budget isn't huge
    Any suggestions???

Poor Torremolinos gets such a bad press. I'm a big fan of it, it's really what you make of it, but nevertheless, how about somewhere like Nerja, Rincon de la Victoria or Salobrena? They are to the east of Malaga. Quiet but not dead.

    Nerja +1
Lagos in Portugal is one of my favourite places - actually there are loads of places on the Algarve.

    Lanzarote
Ibiza has some really nice areas - I really liked the old town. You just need to avoid San Antonio tbh.

    Lake Garda.

Cheap flight to bergamo and then hire a car or bus to Milan and then on to lake garda.

Really lovely place and the Italians have a lot of time for kids.

I've been there before and would go back in a heartbeat.
