A nice bet on Dutch Connection in the 3.10. Drop back to 7f will suit.

A Mark Johnston winner - cue the OTT gushing from Channel 4 about how tough and consistent his horses are. Yawn.

Lovely ride by Ryan Moore there.

They are certainly tough, and I know which horse I'd have preferred to be on in such a battle.

Only problem is that there were four of them in the bloody race!

Imagine what some would be like if he actually gave them a chance and not run them every week throughout the whole summer. Remember Es Que Love? Managed to win a decent Group 2 race against Toormore in 2014 once he left Johnston

Galileo Gold for me in the Sussex. Course winner last year and should be fresher than The Gurkha coming here from the Eclipse.

Galileo Gold with a saver on Richard Pankhurst at 55s.

Ryan Moore in the pocket .. here we go, ah no well ridden

I know it is after timing, but O'Brien was 11/2 to win the British Trainers Championship in March , oh I wish I lobbed on more than a tenner now

Won't be surprised if he reaches 4 to 4.5 million , and no Derby win!!!! What has happened to Hannon and Gosden this year? Both barely to be seen at Ascot. Wonder would Richard Hughes, even at his age, have kept Hannon winning a few? (he is still knocking out 100 odd winners but he does have loads of horses )

Galileo Gold did put up some run. What a shame there was no other horse to lead

Galileo went to £5.85 million earnings this year in GB & Ireland.

That's around £600 million more than the next 3 in the table combined together and they are Sea The Stars £2.4 million, Dubawi £1.58 million and Dark Angel £1.28million.

    Great finish.
It sure was but I don't think we saw any brilliant milers in that race today, the pack were close enough.

No. As Eamon Dunphy would say, "They're good but they're not great". Still, they've given us some exciting finishes so far this season.

Really like Ulysses. Will win Group Ones next year. Stoute saying they're going for the Great Voltigeur next but not the Leger. No one wants to win the Leger anymore.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,474 ✭✭✭longshotvalue

I don't need much convincing to go for a3 figure price but I think The Twizler is overpriced today in the goodwood cup . He didn't stay last time in the gold cup and could be a decent front runner today 125/1 Ew. Also went with Wicklow at 14 .

Might win one this year. Head over to the Canadian Pattison if they wanted to. Who knows, a Group 2 in France or UK,we might see him in the British Champion Stakes

Definitely a horse for next year

Stoute could do with a Classic , it has been a while! Judging by his past tendency to run a least one or two, he would be happy enough to run it

Ulysses is doubtful to get the extra 2 furlongs based on his mother's side

But yeah, the Leger is getting no love at all . Shame

With Frank Spencer on board (I know, I know, Jamie has been ridding pretty well for the last two seasons) does anyone think Big Orange will win today? Seems to be a tough race. What are people's views on 8-5 Sword Fighter? The course seems to allow for front runners with stamina - though Palmers horses have been unlucky.

See Gordon Elliot is running Commissioned

Gusty enough performance by Sword Fighter. Wow, he looked tiny compared to Big Orange. Colm kinda allowed him to get bullied there though

He will/should certainly ensure that the two chums at Godolpin keep up their performances . Buick will feel like a right wally now. McDonald has been the jockey story of the summer, he won some serious prize money in the short space of time and won for many trainers

I'd rephrase that, Ulysses is doubtful to be let get the extra 2 furlongs based on the stud value he gets from his mother's side.

They're playing him up as being a speedy horse and ignoring the implications of his pedigree and of the simple fact that he asserted again at the end of 12f the last day. By a Derby winner out of an Oaks winner who was herself out of a Shirley Heights mare mated to Kingmambo ( sire of Leger winner Encke ) a sire who turned out to be a considerable stamina influence in pedigrees himself despite being expected to be more of a miler influence.

Ulysses has a stayers's dosage index of 0.85. Last year's Leger winner Simple Verse had a DI of 0.88, 2014 winner Kingston Hill had a DI of 0.90, 2013 winner Leading Light had a DI of 0.96.

His half brother Dr Yes by Dansili with a speedier 12f type DI of 1.06 won at 11.5f and 12f and never won over shorter. The supposed speed in Ulysses pedigree comes from Ulysses's Dam's half sister Shiva who was by the miler influence Hector Protector. Shiva DI 1.48 made her debut at 9f and had enough stamina to beat Daylami over 10.5f in the Gp 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh and ran in Montjeu's King George.

Big run expected from Jamesie tomorrow in the Stewards cup lads, drawn 3.
    Good ew at 33s

Lads, I know he got to ride for Godolpin and Johnstone so he had a lot of chances, but, seriously James McDonald's performances from Mid June to the End of July have been............ridiculously good. Like,he is big deal over in the Sydney area and cold easily have taken it handy as oppose to coming across to this side on the world to ride handicaps (to be fair he got about 4-5 group races, proper ones too) He has about 20 wins in under 100 rides

He has preformed a lot better than that ugly f*&(er Craig Williams that everyone fawns over (attention to detail etc as if the real top class lads don't - remember Channel 4 before the Jubilee last year? shopping bags on the boots, thinking far too much and instead of going with the pack he thought he knew better and stuck with the rails, should have won )

Things getting interesting in the Jockeys title too. Doyle and Moore creeping up on De Sousa

He is still at a mad high price. Why? Nice enough weight, lovely draw and Dobbs knows his way around Goodwood and has ran well recently

Has Richard Hannon won any races at Goodwood yet?

Marnane horses weren't in good form, hope to be out of it like Wachmans.
He reckons if he can get something fast close to him to take him along he will run a big race.

Ross Coakley has went over to ride one for Johnstone in the last app race in Goodwood, reliably informed that this his horse is back to his best again

I was talking about how the horse lost. It was unfortunate, might have gone well enough to make the top 4.

That might be beaten before we even get into September, even with a few placing at York never mind winning. (achieved if they win the International)Jeez. Whether it is the horses or a certain Ryan Moore, O'Brien must be feeling like the Murtagh days again
