Saorview app is available for download on the App Store and on android. Looks pretty good. I take it we are not far away from Saorview connect now.

    ^^^

It's the exact same as the Freetime (Freesat app), except a version behind. The Saorview app loads and tries to check for a Saorview connect box so it can act as the remote... A box that doesn't exist yet! (They removed this annoying 'trying to connect as remote' when starting on the later Freetime version).

EDIT: Although on loading the app again it didn't prompt so maybe it remembers...

So you can't actually stream Saorview channels if in Ireland?

What's the bloody point of that?

Not sure I follow. The 'On Demand' takes you to the players to run on your device- well RTE and TG4. Same as the Freetime one does for the UK channels - BBC/ITV etc. You can't play back the recordings over the internet.

Being as Freetime are developing the Saorview app, it'll work exactly the same as the Freetime box/app does. My Freetime box powers up the disk and sends/receives data back from/to the Freetime servers every 20 mins or so. So if I use the app to schedule a recording or delete the box gets it within 20 mins.

    Fairly handy I find.

Seriously? 20 minutes? What age are we living in here, the 20th century?

With open source tvheadend and TVHClient app i can remotely tell my combined Saorview/Freesat system to record now or later or "series link" type recording without going through some 3rd party server.

I am not saying that everyone should go the tvheadend route, just that its not rocket science.
