Tyres for E60

The time has come to replace all four tyres on my BMW E60.

Current tyres are Bridgestone Potenzas RE050A. When researching tyres last night I was surprised to see them receiving very average reviews. Honestly I think they have been great. Good wet grip. And have lasted long enough too. Got 100k kms out of the fronts, and have just got to the 50k km mark on the rears, which are the second set, the first lasted 50k also.

The last 2 cost €165 each, so that is my benchmark regarding budget. Wouldn't want to push too far beyond that.

    Advice appreciated.

Getting that sort of mileage out of them and as you are happy with them I would stick with those.

Stick with the Bridgestones. They obviously suit your car and your driving.

    Same as above.

I wouldn't care much for reviews if I was happy with the tyres I had.

You must live on the motorway with that kind of mileage though.

I have been running Michellin Pilot Super Sport (non run flats) on my E60 for a few years now and am very happy with them.

I did quite a bit of research back then before choosing.

Thanks guys, I was just assuming that there are better tyres than mine out there!

Indeed I do. I would say over 80% of mileage is motorway.

Thanks WacoKid. Can I ask what the wear levels are like on them?

Don't have the exact figures but am coming up to 3 years on the fronts anyway. That will be approx. 30 - 45 km. I expect to get through this coming winter on them at least. For the rears well a heavy foot has a big part to play so trying to compare without knowing driving styles is difficult.

IIRC these tyres are what ship as standard with the M5. Ferrari use them as standard too, or at least they did.

Says here they are developed for BMW M, Ferrari, and Porsche

Overall I would say I like the car. It is nice to drive, very comfortable and has a good spec.

Unfortunately it is far from reliable. I've put a lot into maintaining it. Springs, control arms, ball joints are guaranteed to go post 150k km.

Higher expense items have been fuel injectors (4/6 changed) and the two cats. Also had to change all ignition coils.

The engine wear is the worst part. She drinks oil, about a litre per 1k km. I've changed all the common faults: valve gasket, oil filter gasket, pcv valve etc. It is just down to the rings and valve seals now. Not economical to repair.
