Do you have a link for this?

Holy ****. I thought the world couldn't get any worse.

I looked at the BBC News Channel ticker while watching Sportsday and I thought Jesus Christ.

My thoughts go out to those who have been killed in Tokyo. RIP to all those who died.

Senseless violence seems to be contagious these days, everyday and in places where you wouldn't expect it.

I know Japan had the Sarin attack years ago, but Japan is known for it low level of violent crime.
Another sad day for people who never thought it would be their last, the poor families and friends.

Not terrorist attack. More of a personal attack on a place he worked or was living.?

I forgot to mention this but one of my own college classmates is from Japan. I had my began my months holidays from college last Friday & he was talking to my classmates about going back to Japan for his holidays.

I don't know what is his date for his holiday now but I hope that he is here instead of there on a night like this. :(

Does it really matter where in the world he is?
Unless he lived near that building/worked in it then he was not in danger/hopefully does not know dead/injured.
No matter where he is, its likely he will feel upset about a horrible event in his home country.

Some reports saying the victims were attacked while they slept ,

Attack happened at Tsukui Yamayuri Garden 45 other injured and 5 critical

Have people forgotten how to be extremely violent in the face of extreme violence, hard to believe he could cause so much carnage and get away.

Jesus, I was wondering how one person without a gun did so much damage, forgot it was the middle of the night and everyone would be asleep :(

What a low down cowardly act attacking people who'd have trouble protecting themselves anyway, when they're completely defenseless. Wonder if he had an axe, there have been a few axe massacres in Japan over the years.

Maybe because his victims were disabled & therefore not able to defend themselves

most people run at the sight of someone that's armed or drop to the floor and hope for the best ,

It just take 2-4 to rush and take down a single attacker ,
A lot of places in America now are running self defense classs where they teach students how to rush an attacker ,

But in this case a lot of the victims would have been asleep as it was after 2am and with the sheer numbers of casualties it was probably easy to walk out the front door

You miss the bit about the victims being disabled?

Those poor people. Jesus. I hope some good, positive news stories come out in the next few days. We need more good in the world.

He was a former patient who escaped and returned with a knife. I dunno if that's true or not but it was an early report.

Just seen he was reported to have said "I did it. I want to get rid of the disabled."
Mirror is not best source in the world - and even if true, if this was told to police why would it even be reported to papers now, the attack is barely just over.

A lot of staff were probably women as well when I think about it, nurses/carers. Might not have the physical strength to take him on.

But; That's a film. This is fcuking rank :(

19 people died on the far side of the planet.

A million others have died on better and worse conditions as well.
I don't understand why news agencies broadcast these stories while there are plenty other more varied and relevant things going on.

Anyone going to Maker faire in Dublin on Saturday? Rte and the like would have been better to do a story on that rather than some Japanese event which has little bearing on anyone in Ireland.

    R.I.P to the innocent victims.

I know that with the advances in technology coupled with around the clock news reporting, there is an element of truth to 'We're just hearing about more bad shít now, it always happened'. However, I can't help but feel that the value of a human life is ridiculously low in the 21st century.

I read that in an early report. I wasn't trying to be funny.

I doubt any report referred to those being cared for as "retards" or referred to departure as an "escape". They are not criminals in a prison or animals in a zoo.

    agreed - horrific stuff!!!!!

but the premise of the film is what I am referring to. times like these, or the Batman movie shootings, or the Florida shootings, or Nice... that plot pops into my head

I think posters had a problem with your use of the retard word. I know many people with disabilities find it a pejorative word that is hurtful and offensive.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Did the early report also use third word in your first post,or was that your little addition?

It was the entire tone of it. The notion that disabled people might "escape" is also highly offensive, as if they are animals. They "leave"...

if someone in a care facility has left without a process for such being followed, such as leave or checked out, for all intents and purposes it is considered an escape. The word they tend to use is Flight, or Flight risk becuase it sounds...

    ...nicer

    it's the same fúcking thing.

To me, the whole "so a retard escapes" sounds like a bad line from an 80s joke or the start of those urban myths from back in those days, that has long since fallen into disuse. You may have no issue with it and it is only language. I think it's language that degrades and insults, that is all.
