Built in wardrobe, plasterboard walls

    Hi Guys,
I'm just seeing if anyone knows how to build a built in wardrobe when the walls in the alcove are plasterboard. The clothes rail will be supporting A LOT of clothers, so plasterboard fixings would not cut it IMO and there is also no stud available to screw into.

I've never attempted this type of thing before, so I'm a beginner, never mind an amateur :) My idea was to use plasterboard fixings to fix some mdf or somesuch to the plasterboard wall, then fix the rail to the mdf.
    Any advice would be appreciated.

You could use the mdf but make it big enough to reach a stud on either side. There should be a stud in the corner and another 16inches out depending on the carpenter that built it of course. You could also cut a slot in the plasterboard big enough to put a cross stud in between two studs. Screw the piece you cut out back to this and fill the gaps

How wide/deep is the alcove? Could you slot in an ikea wardrobe carcass?

If your doing a custom one, are the sides of the alcove parallel? I would first get the doors that will tell you how wide you need to make the unit.

The sides I would make out if Conti board, plastic covered chip board. This will make handing the doors and shelves much easier.
