New toilet seat gap between bowl

One of the toilet seats on out twyford toilets was extremely discolored (yellow !) so I decided to replace it today. I got one and it went on grand even if it feels as cheap as it was at 14.99 !
However the "teeth" on it where it meets the bowl are much larger than the original one. This means there is a gap between the bowl and the seat. As it's the bathroom the kids use I'm worried about urine easily coming out through the gap when they go ! Also will it let out a constant smell from the toilet ( I'm assuming it's supposed to be flush with the bowl when it's down )

I think I'll switch it to the downstairs one that is not used much and out that original one upstairs then

Is there no gap in downstairs one?

No the original ones sit flush with the bowl
    The "teeth" are much smaller

Well that looks like a gap to me, albeit smaller.

Either way, neither will be odor nor liquid proof.

Id agree ,the gap is way too much,if your handy you could cut them down and grind, file them to a better dimension,or change to new seat
