Any opinions on this one lads ..I recently came across this
It a Charles II St .Patricks Farthing
Dated pre 1670. The image back and front can be made out under a magnifying glass, and the writing is very readable
    it reads
FLOREAT REX (May the King Flourish).
And QVIESCAT PLEBS ( peace to the people)

A rare coin according to online sources

I only collect coins in a very casual way but I would have thought that your coin in next to worthless - condition is everything. :)

    There's some information here: http://www.irishcoinage.com/MILL1CAT.HTM

Irish coins brought to America by Mark Newby and because of the shortage of coinage in colonies, these became legal tender in New Jersey around 1680. So there's a huge demand for them both in the States and here. Unfortunately the condition of yours is too bad to be worth much.

It's a real pity :( ah well that's old coins for ya . Still to have something that old is a bonus so I'm happy with it

I've had the coin seen by a specialist who claims it's not worth that much . Which I kind of already knew . He told me that had it been in slightly better condition it may have fetched a nice bit . To be honest even if it was in top condition of find it hard to sell as it is rare .

He's right because these coins are usually found in worn condition but you need to be able to see the entire image at least for it to be worth anything. So if it was a bit less worn that you could see the image clearly on both sides it could have been worth a few quid. You could spend over 100 euro for one in a condition that I would call respectable/collectible. I have one in slightly better condition than yours but still nothing to write home about and I paid 20 Euro for it.

    How/where did you find it?

Found in grand parents shed in an old biscuit tin along with some older Irish coins . Was clearing out the shed and happened to look in the tin and came across it . Lucky I did as all was been thrown out lol

I found one in better condition than that. Got over €400 for it. I'm sure I had a post about it on here at some stage
