There is a McDonalds in Shannon town itself, 3 mins from the airpot, but it doesn't open till 7am. There is no fast food outlet in the airport.

On a totally unrelated note, Burger King have a history of following US troops on their 'operations' worldwide.

As soon as the US military arrived in Iraq, Burger King were hot on its heels, establishing special outlets for serving soldiers.

Alas, as soon as the military left, so did Burger King.

They didn't leave those unfortunate people a decent fast food outlet, let alone democracy.

There is a restaurant. It is terrible, like a 1980s canteen. Be closed at that time.

You sound like a man in a hurry.

    Have you considered adult nappies?

The Zest food market opened in Departures last month. Its nice. Opens at 5.30am. They'll do you a takeaway too. The Sheridan Food Pub in departures is open 24 hours. You need a boarding pass to use it. Not sure if it does food that early though and last time I was in it, the food was crap. Zest from now on.

Are they still using it? I know it was hosting less and less of US military flights but unsure of its current usage.

Though make sure that both the ham and the bread are just past their 'best before' date and that the tae is tepid....ah, the taste of Ireland.

Yes it is still very much being used as a base for US military

surely you could spare 5minutes somewhere along the road to get a coffee and a sandwitch and just eat it on the go.
Roads will be empty so a bit of swerving wont cause any damage.

You can also get normal flights as a normal person to normal destinations.

sorry - just think that point often gets lost in the online discussion polemics and wanted to re-emphasise.

Come off the motorway at the dock road in Limerick and get a breakfast roll in Centra. It's 24 hour and usually have a fresh deli in the middle of the night for taxi drivers, emergency services etc. Straight out to the airport then.

Im shocked. I thought shannon being a large international airport with much transatlantic traffic would be something similar to dublin in terms of bars and food choices etc.
From what's said in this thread, the place must be a shambles.

Yeah it is alright. SAA have recently issued tenders for the catering side of things, so the must know its terrible. The airside bar, Sheridans, has been run into the ground over the last couple of years and the SAA were hoping for new operators to start next month.

    Shannon is not busy.
Dublin has more flights in an hour than Shannon in a day.
So you cannot expect the same service at Dublin airport which has a many thousands of passengers per hour in the Morning (dozens of flights per hour) compared to a few hundred from Shannon on one or 2 flights per hour.

You seem to be in a bit of a rush. Why did you need to drive from Dublin to Shannon to get a flight?
