Their top 3 priorities are the M20, M50 and N15. Not sure I fully agree with a further M50 upgrade (big PT schemes needed instead)

A bit ridiculous really, any analysis of the numbers will tell you that DARTu, Metro North and the M20 are the most important projects right now. The N15?? who on Earth uses it. The M50 cannot be further improved. Demmand management is the only answer there.

By M50 improvement, I think they mean the part before M11 which desperately needs to be widened to 3 lanes.

I can't take this report very seriously though as it doesn't include M50 Junction upgrades, N3 until Clonee, and N4 until Lucan.

waste of time upgrading any of the recently upgraded m50... the eastern bypass would be a worthwhile project. but not before DU and MN...

    Interesting they mention Sprucefield.

Also interesting that they didn't mention York Street.

Interesting proposals. One thing that's missing and would be a good addition is an upgrade of the N52 from the M7 to the N33 at Ardee. 2+2 dual in certain sections and good single the rest at the very least. North east to south west traffic can avoid the M50 and busy N/M7 section plus it joins up most of the inter urban cross country motorway routes.

Absolutely. The difference would also be noticeable on the N7 Naas Road, too.

Dammit. You already said that. Woops.

The N33 would probably be best upgraded in that instance to 2+2, as it would inevitably be busier, but that should be a fairly straightforward job to do. Maybe couple that with a simple bypass of the N2 at Ardee, as well?

Yes a bypass of Ardee on the N2 and N33 to N52. A Birr N52 bypass also incorporating the N62 aswell. Maybe even go as far as renumbering the N52 as N33 and make it a primary route. Though this is off topic for this thread.

I have created a thread for discussion of the N52 Ardee BP here:

That's a very good idea, r.e. renumbering as N33...surely, it would then be more likely to reveive funds for upgrades, being a National Primary?

Yes I would agree with redesignating the N52 as a national primary. This is a strategic route of national importance. Sections of the N52 are very poor and urgently require realignment/widening.

I can't see it happening as long as the M1 & M7 are tolled. If there was a decent national primary from Limerick-Dundalk there would be a reduction of income on the M1, M50 and M7/M8 tolls

There's no evidence to believe that that would be a factor. The government does not and should not protect private tolls.

The M50 toll is a government toll anyway as far as I'm aware. Surely it's in the best interest of everyone not to have traffic on the M50 that doesn't need to be there.

The government would love said traffic to be there except during peak hours of 7:30 - 9am and 4:30 - 6:30pm.

Any other time of the day they would get the M50 toll money, and the VAT on the M1 & M4 tolls, especially for cross country trucks.
