The sink tap in the kitchen (cold one) trickles water after you turn it off. I replaced the washer to no avail. The tap is only 10 years old. Is there anything else I can do before having to call in a plumber.:(

Replace the spindle, the brass valve under the tap handle, turn off the water, take out the spindle with a spanner, take it to the hardware and get a like for like replacement.

1/4 turn tap or a standard 6-8 turn type ?
If so, base (standard) you'll need plumber to grind re seating base ( where washer makes contact)

10 years is its life, its cheaper just to replace the tap than mess around trying to find compatible parts or remachine it.

Will i have to get a plumber to supply and fit a replacement tap? I would not be confident in doing it myself. How much would it cost on average?

No idea. Its always better to get a professional if you don't know what you are doing so that applys to most people. You could learn though and working on taps isn't too difficult or unsafe. In the worst case you could flood the house I suppose. Saying that if you research it properly first and write everything down with a tick list then you should be able to do it safely. If you have any questions on your tick list just ask here. I would start by buying the tap or taps of your choice, then you can pick between hiring a pro or doing it yourself. Its usually cheaper to hire a pro in the long run but its good fun learning something new..

Replacement taps cost from 40 euro up to hundreds so probably better if you choose one
