Would you want to be famous?

For whatever field you like, but the catch is once you choose to become famous, you can't go back - you're famous forever. In the words of Dave Chappelle, you can get infamous, but you can't get UN-famous.

    If not, why?

    Most common and reasonable objection.

10:1 against fame, surprised honestly. It seems as if there's an aversion to fame.

It seems those most unworthy of fame seek it the most hungrily....

I imagine it to be like when you're trying for ages to get to sleep, and it's three am, and you're reminded of that time it looked like you were sucking off a bottle of blue WKD when you were 23.

So that'll be a no for me.

I would like to be a respected photographer though. But photographers don't really get to be properly famous. They just retire to Paris and take **** pictures and everyone is amazed by their art.

It really depends on what I'm famous for.

I would hate having spastics coming up looking for pictures and shouting across the street and all that but you got to admit that being admired for some achievement or other would be great.

But as for being famous for nothing. God no.

No, I have spent my lift trying to keep in the background and get on with my passions. Easier said than done but it's worth the effort for me.

Would I want to have a piece of the wealth that goes with fame? Yes please
Would I like to be criticised and nitpicked over every move I make or thing I do and not be able to give my child a kiss without be trolled over it? No thanks, I'll have my family privacy over the money

I think the word famous is non applicable. I'd rather be well respected for my endeavours.

I don't want to be a celebrity. But I would like to be known locally for my accomplishments and my virtues and my likeability, just enough to have people smile when they hear my name spoken and say, "Hey, yeah, I know Speedwell", and for me to have the cachet to gather a few like-minded people to do something worthwhile for the community, or fun on the weekend :)

I would like it if it came with money (either because of a talent or otherwise).

I remember Lee MacDonald (who?) once saying in an interview that it was a living hell walking down the road and everyone recognizing you, treating you like a star, but yet you were broke and going home alone to a bedsit. That was years back when he was in his late 20's early 30's but he has his own Locksmiths now and seems to feel different about it, even gets jobs off of it. He played Zammo in Grange Hill.

I see that Irish guy about in Dublin that went on X-Factor (long blonde hair) and feel for him as people are always starring at him but he has no way of making money of his notoriety. At least if he was a woman he could get his boobs out for Nuts or something :P Which is pretty much all Casey Batchelor, Imogen Thomas etc etc have done since they had their 15 minutes. A lot of money to be made for women by getting on reality TV if they are anyway good looking. Sure look at the damn Kardashian clan.

Anyway, I would hate to be famous and broke but with cash I think I'd enjoy it.

In the modern 'on the telly sense', for no good reason? Celebrity status without a single unique attribute worthy of celebration? No thanks.

If I did something better than others who did the same thing, and I chose to do that thing in the public eye? Still.... probably not.
