Interesting article on the Independent about a tender that has gone out to look for an expert to examine the job specifications for Garda trainees.

This will ultimately lead to a changes being made to the entire recruitment process.

Job specs for trainee gardaí to be reviewed.
A tender process is underway to hire a person or firm to examine the role of gardaí and provide a comprehensive report which will include an overview of the role of Garda Trainee, including a detailed job description.

The report will also detail the competencies needed to perform the role effectively.

It will also make recommendations for the selection process potential recruits will face

I'd imagine they are looking to implement the changes prior to the next recruitment drive. It's not all that surprising, there's been a fair bit of frustration in all quarters with the recruitment process for the last two campaigns.

It has been a frustrating process to date.

I applied in December 2015, and Its now July and I'm only at the fitness stage.

The competition is far to slow.

In the garda inspectorate report there was a plan to change the training from 32 week to a 22 week programme. Might be the last part of the plan

6months from applying until I passed every stage. Theres people from 2013 who are only finishing their PCT now. Something has to be done to speed it up

I remember the days when people waited three years to get in.

That said I waited three months - one of the lucky few.
