I have a ltd vat registered company and want to buy a new jeep for the family.I understand the ends and outs of buying one of these business/commercial 5 seater jeeps and due to its use and to avoid bik it makes more since to buy it privately without claiming back the vat.
Even buying it privately there is a good saving at the moment under the commercial edition but ive heard they are watching to finish this in 2016 for all jeeps like the touareg,discovery,x5 etc. I'm anxious to wait for the touareg coming out next year but id be better off buying the old version if the government are dropping this saving .Has anyone heard anything whether this will be continued into next year?

    What system was changed?
As I see it, the current breed of crewcabs are a lot more attractive than the previous 2 seater jeeps with blanked out windows that were the thing up till a few years ago, or the crewcab conversions of 10 years ago that required extensive modification of floors in some cases.
More attractive to a family user than the crude doublecab pickup with a box on the back too.
there's still the elephant in the room that these are commercial pickups for business use, and not family vehicles.

So that wont be for commercial so you will pay the regular tax bands. The system was changed to stop people using commercial SUVs as way to not pay tax.

If by regular tax bands you are referring to motortax, yeah I know and have no problem with that, the saving I'm referring to is on the original purchase price of the jeep

Exactly Colm , the question is i heard the "crewcab" eligibility for the Touareg ,x5s etc is being done away with the end of 2016 , has anyone else heard this ?

I thought that the classification was a Europe wide thing and not specifically Irish.
