Don't know if this is the the right place but just curious if anyone has any knowledge or understanding of this. Have an old router that doesn't reach some parts of the house so got one of these wifi extenders and set it up just before where the signal drops.

All was working well got great coverage in parts that never got it before but my home alarm system start playing up which I thought weird it kept saying phone line failure and house phone would receive calls no problem but wouldn't make calls?? Weird I thought so plugged out WiFi extender and alls good and back to normal...

    Anyone come across this before?

It sounds like your phone line was going to earth via the homeplugs(assume thats what you mean, a pair of devices yeah?), only way I can see that happening. If that is the case your modem isn't up to scratch.

*Assume you're not with Virgin here

Sorry don't understand. Yea modem is old and with Vodafone. All I know is when the extender is plugged into the electrical socket it knocks out the alarm and the house phone which are in different rooms.

I assume the extender is just a single device that retransmists the WiFi signal? Try plugging it into an extension socket. Also are you using dect phones? Might be interference due to both wifi and dect operating on the same frequency.

Pretty much yea it just extends your signal. Yea I am using a dect phone which could be problem. I'll play around with it tonite see what works.

The repeater nuking 2.4Ghz makes some sense, but it wouldn't do that in one direction, it'd be inbound and outbound calls.
