Why is it OK to give advice on how to do a DIY repair on an OIL BOILER here and not gas ?

O my god, gas can kill unless you get an RGI "service engineer "

But its ok to repair your stove of oil boiler yourself with our advice !!!

Yes you do recommended a proper engineer 50% of the time, but 100% of the time all boiler's not set up properly can potentially kill. So why give advice on oil but it's a "no no" on gas.

    Yes
I know gas is more a legal regulated energy now, but oil or solid fuel can be = dangerious if done wrong.

It's a mad old world

    Tom.

Its illegal to work on gas unless you follow a given criteria, other fuel sources have the ability to have a negative impact on a persons longevity but gas gets more love from the powers that be purely because of the ease it can turn a home in to a brick covered carpark.

    Cheers Garry,
But more people killed from solid fuel than gas in Ireland. (Fact)

I just wish it was better regulated for the poor cousins fuel.

Gas is more hazardous than Oil. Gas can form an explosive mixture at atmospheric conditions, oil can't. An oil leak is often evident, gas is usually not. Gas needs to be transported is some sort of pressure rated container (be is pipe or cylinder), oil doesn't. Gas normally has an unlimited supply (if you are connected to the Network), oil doesn't, Gas is colourless and odourless, oil isn't. Just a few examples.

Gas is odourless????? It has a staunching agent added for safety, so the public it always has a smell.

If/when oil becomes regulated and you are legally required to be registered to work on oil, then advice will be stopped also.
Tom the decision to ban technical on gas was a decision taken collectively by all the Mods here a few years back, and is always up for review with other fuels and works.

I meant that Natural Gas is odourless in it's raw form (before they add the Mercapton for that very reason).
