As an avid lad who plays a fair few PC games, I register for a few game communities websites also. This one website says my IP is blocked for spamming accounts. I rang UPC to go about an IP change and they advised that I turn the modem off, unplug the coax wire and reconnect everything. That didn't work.

Then they said they'd factory reset it from their end and after 15 minutes I'd be assigned a new IP.. that didn't work. What else can I do that will actually work? My IP is dynamic but I don't think it has ever changed.

    Try

    ipconfig /release

    then

    ipconfig /renew

No guarantees, but it might work.

    Turns out it won't!

That the internal IP not external so wont fix this at all im afraid. You could turn it off for a few hours and its possible it would release the IP but id reckon you would need a few days in reality, Having them send you a new Router should work as it assigns the IP to the associated Mac address.

Their CMTS can release after 2-3hrs but if the pool is pretty full theres a good chance you'll get the same one again.

If your modem is bridgeable, bridge it and spoof MACs with your PC. It'll change your IP each time then reset the modem, chances are you'll have a new address.

NB: If your modem is showing a v6 address none of this will work and only Virgin can fix it.

Do this but leave it overnight before reconnecting and powering up again.

Sorry, misinterpreted your post. Thought you meant fixing it in another way.
