    Hi All,

My windscreen is cracked , autoglass.ie replacing it through insurance with a spurious screen. Are they the same standard as genuine screens? Am I within my rights to insist on a genuine audi screen? Or is it bringing unnecessary hassle on myself?

    Cheers.

This is a question i'd love to know the answer to myself,I've had spurious windscreens fitted before and have been unhappy with the job, i don't know if it was down to the screen or the fitter.

I had my windscreen replaced a couple of months ago and it was a genuine ford windscreen that was fitted for my 152 Focus, I wouldnt be concerned. They take your vin number I think when arranging time for replacement so they can order in the correct parts

I've had similar experiences, I'm in no doubt about where the blame lies!

Audi don't make screens, you're getting it replaced with an OEM screen as it's going through insurance. Which is why insurance repair jobs always cost more than paying yourself, insurance insist on new OEM parts for all jobs.

Make sure that if you have auto wipers that the sensor is properly connected after fitting.

I think you are confused by what OEM means. Of course Audi don't make windscreens the same way they don't make springs or suspension arms, but there is a vast difference in quality of spurious and OE or OEM in the above parts and the same applies to the windscreens :)

I am sure there are some windscreen fitters that supply the best possible part they can but i am sure most just buy them cheap and stack them high like your average kwik fit/advance would with ditch finders.

I got a windscreen replaced on a golf under insurance.
The fitter himself told me that the windscreen was spurious not OEM.

From what I've seen is if you want a screen from audi the insurance company will pay a set amount towards it, the rest would be up to the owner to pay.

Autoglass fitted a pilkington windscreen for me 2 years ago. Very happy with it.

123.ie added a €30 loading for the windscreen claim though.

Afaik Pilkington are used by most of the manufacturers for OEM windscreens. Insurance companies normally use whatever is the cheapest for them which usually means spurious ones. You can usually tell by the ripple in the glass the further down the screen you go or in the corners.

They fitted spurious and the guy was professional and tidy . Can't fault the windscreen itself either so a positive experience with Autoglass .
