Team Ninja's latest offering, a Dark Souls inspired samurai game, is currently only coming on PS4, but I have my fingers crossed it'll see a PC port. I'd snap it up day 1 no hesitation, it looks incredible.

A moment of confusion there when it dawned on me it was in Irish.

Yeah, it's an interesting choice, I wonder if it's just a stylistic choice for the trailer, or does it tie into the plot in any way?

The main character is a fictionalised real English navigator who travelled to Japan, so I'd hazard a guess it's something that sets all that in motion.

when is this due out on the PS4?

It feels a bit too Team Ninja, they have this hyperfluid style that just seems to suit fighting games and not much else, but the Souls gameplay looks exciting.

All I want in my life is a Souls game with no teleporting around and a fresh new world. Dark Souls 1 may never be surpassed in its perfection. To me, the best spiritual successor to Super Metroid anyone could have ever dreamed of.

I don't know, ninja gaiden 1 and 2 were spectacularly good so I'd love to see them tackle the action genre again.

Really hoping this comes to PC as well, the PS4 performance isn't that great and these types of games benefit enormously from 60 fps.

Didn't Team Ninja see a decent sized staff exodus when Itagaki left to found Valhalla? I'd wonder just exactly how many of the team that gave us NG1 & 2 are still there at this stage. :(

Played a bit of it at a friend's yesterday. Not my thing at all. Looks very pretty, but I find the mechanics of these types of games far too frustrating to get even the slightest hint of enjoyment out of them. We did get a chuckle out of my oft said "that's not the button for cake." PlayStation controls aren't instinctive in my head, I have to look at the controller to tell which is circle or square etc, so in a twitchy game like this, I'm never going to have too much fun.

    @Shiminay

Meh. Playstation, xbox, doesn't really matter the buttons, I know them all in my head and through muscle memory. Most games control the same. Do the buttons come up on screen much while in actual gameplay? Because the action games I play don't have much of that (DMC for example). I hate constant tutorials and button prompts but even if they were the wrong symbols I can tell what is what and wouldn't be terribly confused, especially if you can turn it all off and just feel the controls out.

There seems to have been a shift in worldview among the console makers at least, that see the PC as more of a companion format instead of a competitor, e.g. MS giving free Win10 copies of games with the XBoxOne version, and Sony releasing the PlayStationNow option. So the odds are much higher than they used to be.

Ah, I love that sorta gameplay. I've been watching some folks play it on twitch and it looks just like the kinda thing I'd be all over, so really got my fingers crossed it comes to Steam.

Amazon had the date as October 28, but now we've got an official date. Also, here's crossing fingers for that PC version. ;)

It's only a petition, still up in the air whether it'll get a PC release or not. I'd say it will eventually, petition or not, but I'll be saving my jubilations for when they announce a full PC version.

Oooops i read that wrong:( I signed the petition anyway!

    Can you name any examples?
Looking through their catalogue, they're mostly Japanese niche titles (e.g. Nobunaga's Ambition series, anime licenses) with decent-to-positive user ratings.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,932 ✭✭✭YouSavedMyLife

I heard bad thing about their PC ports, but the only KT game i played on PC was Dynasty Warriors 8 and it was better than the console version....

DOA5 uses the PS3/360 engine instead of the Xbone/PS4 which seriously impacts visuals

Heres TB commenting on a port - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pD0S2ux6go
Neogaf thread on their crap ports - http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1175222&page=1
Mentioned loads in worst publisher for PC ports - http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1322148&page=1
Peter “Durante” Thoman calling them out on their **** ports - https://gamerant.com/dark-souls-coder-calls-out-bad-pc-ports/

Its just one of those Japanese publishers that has no clue of the PC market and churns our **** because they look for a quick buck rather than investing in their image on PC, i.e. they dont give a crap about proper porting.

    From Eurogamer - http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2017-10-02-nioh-confirmed-for-pc-out-november-via-steam
"The PC version will include two visual presentation modes: Action Mode, which aims for a stable 60 fps frame rate, and Movie Mode, a “cinematic” option with a 4K display resolution. Koei Tecmo's note to press suggests you can't deviate from either of these two modes, no matter how powerful your PC."
As a PC gamer WTF does that even mean? it translates as we created a PS4 version and a PS4 version and thats your **** on PC, forget about options.

Keep your expectations in check on this one :)

    Hello

Port seems decent. Runs at 60FPS on max settings on my i5 6600k, 1070, 16gig and looks as good as i assume the PSPro version would look. Doesn't support my res (1920x1200) so its stretched out if i full screen it so i play borderless with my own improvised black bars. I should probably get a new monitor though.

Cutscenes are locked at 30FPS though and there appears to be FPS drops in some areas that feel like transitional areas. Like in the opening level there is a small tunnel area that bring my FPS down to 30 for a split second everytime i walk back and forth over this tiny area. That one area was the only time i experienced such stutter.

Noticed a friend mention it on Facebook (only time I heard about it), looked it up and... "Irish Samurai Dark Souls". Am I evil for that making me less inclined to grab it (as an Irish person)?

I've yet to go through DSIII's DLC so I probably won't look into this - played so many 'ports' recently and just the menu's alone often make me want to headbutt the open mouth of an alligator.

The fact that the PC is Irish doesn't detract from the game/storyline. The VA also does a good job and it doesn't come off as sounding like a cliche Irish accent (The VA being Irish himself) I see it as being very much a Japanese fantasy game with the PC simply being a foreigner and not being an Irish person.

I hadn't realised the main character was loosely based on a real historical figure.

Yup. Loosely based being the operative words.

Basically he's white, named William and becomes a samurai...I think that's all the bits they took :D

It's funny, I only stumbled across that because of folks above mentioning the Irish accent so I googled it and the first thing I found was posters (presumably british) on reddit saying they were cancelling their pre-order because they had made him Irish :o

I read an article back at the time of the PS4 release stating the reason they went with an Irish character was because the lead designer felt Ireland had richer folklore than Britain, and Irish people where more attuned to magic than the British. I somewhat agree

Any chance of the frame rate becoming unlocked at some point?
