Will I be eligible for Disability Allowance?

    Hi,

I'm 18 I have osteoarthritis (from what I can remember that's what it was called). I have had it since a young age maybe around 6. I have it in my right knee which spreaded to my left and had to constantly get fluid taking out. Then the doctor said it went away as fluid didn't build up again after a few months. I was around age 9/10 when he said that.

But now I'm 18 and it seems to of come back as my knees have swelled up and it's been worse as this time I actually have pain in my knees. Example, the other day I was on a walk and got a shooting pain in my knee and couldn't walk on it properly for say 10 mins.

I also have a issue with my right eye it's been classed as cloudiness to the eye, it stops me from having full vision so I can see out of it but everything is blurry in that one eye.

I'm currently on job seekers allowance, I was wondering is there a chance I will get accepted for DA I've been told I would due to my conditions. And also if I go about enquiring it will my job seekers allowance be stopped?

Sorry if I'm in the wrong section but this is my first time on boards.

    Hi thanks for the response,

I'm just more curious as is it or would it be the type of medical issues that would be eligible for disability allowance?

Your G.P. may be better able to advise, as they would be used to people making the application.
If you feel you may be entitled to it you will need to fill out the application form and your G.P. will fill out a section of it as well. Ask the G.P. to include copies of all relevant documents, hospital assessments and consultant reports supporting and verifying your condition and include them with your application.
One piece of advise I can give is to carefully photocopy all pages of the application and any documents included and keep them safe for reference.

    Thanks for the info!

Where would I get the form would it be from my GP? And I don't have any documents for my arthritis etc myself as it went away for years as I mentioned. Would my GP be able to get all them details? Because that wasn't my GP years ago as I had moved house.

Also will I still get my job seekers allowance while waiting for my applications answer?

You can get the forms from your local social welfare office.
Your entitlement to disability allowance is based on your condition now, not so much your past.
So if you condition now is having a debilitating affect on your life and you are attending your G.P. / Hospital for it, then your G.P. should be able to provide something to back up and verify your circumstances. You will need your G.P. to back up your claim.
Yes you can still claim J.S.A. while you apply.
