Stuck new mains water meter valve

    Hello everyone, I have one of these new mains water meters in the new property I'm renting
    h t t p : / / w w w . adverts. i e/other-farming/water-meter-box/5391432

    it is like this new type with a plasticy valve and a small blue plastic key that turns it. the valve looks a bit like a square with 2 flat sides and the 2 others a bit curved. so a normal square key wouldnt really fit.

    Basically turning the plastic key doesn't really work(it slips and bends and feels like it would break) as it is really stuck, and I am wondering what people suggest..like if anyone knows if there is a special type of metal key that would work on these new style mains or any way you can think of making this work/unjamming the valve?

    Practical solutions appreciated. Already tried calling and asking various places but it's not been so useful.
    Thanks a lot.
    p.s. sorry if this post is in the wrong category, I`m not quite sure where it belongs?

    Hi acab123,

    Thanks for getting in touch.

    If you would like to provide us with the below details via PM, we can arrange for the relevant department to take a look at the valve and complete repairs if necessary:

    Your name;
    Address and;
    Contact Number.

    Thanks in advance,
    Amy

    Hello Amy, I would actually like board members to answer to my post on here and not to interact with Irish Water. I am not in Ireland so this is not relevant to me and also I just would like to resolve this by myself.

    The meter and valve I have are the standard new ones used in Ireland so this is the most relevant place for me to ask this question. Hope somebody can help.

    I was faced with a situation last night where the inlaws had a plumbing emergency and I had to go down to help them.
    I had to access the new meter chamber to turn off the mains supply.
    The blue plastic key isn't fit for purpose and kept slipping off the valve.
    There's barely enough room to get your hand in to turn it.
    I have a long key for standard valves which wouldn't fit the new one.
    Only I persevered and eventually managed to shut off the supply, their house would have been flooded and destroyed.
    These things are a disaster, I'm glad I prevented one from being installed at my house.
