My mate played in his Captains prize last week. It was 18 holes with the top120 qualifying for this Sat n then the top 27 playing off over 9 holes in the evening. He finished 2 nd last week so will his handicap be adjusted or will he be still off the same as its the same competition. Thanks in advance

People usually make sure to not qualify too well for these so they don't get cut. Your friend was right to keep going til the end and finish second, but I guarantee you people are looking at his score and thinking he's an idiot for not throwing a few shots.

Not too sure on this, check the rules with the club, my club your handicap stays the same for the 2 weekends

OP - Seeing as your question has been answered I'd like to make a slightly off topic question / comment...

Is the course closed to non qualifiers / players for the days the event is being run on?

With 120 qualifiers I assume that the initial round was played over two if not three days, and now this Saturday holds the final rounds.

For someone who doesnt qualify, thats two or three prime summer (weekend) days they wouldnt be able to Golf. Even if they're technically allowed to play I think most would probably stay away anyway. I've noticed that Captains Prize events are starting to becoming more drawn out and elaborate.

    Any thoughts?

Same at my old club, adjustments did not apply to second round.

120 golfers is only around 4 and a half hours in tee times if they are in 4balls.
Not sure how many started but most clubs get everyone out in one day so it's only the second day where u can't play if u didn't qualify.

At my place you keep your handicap for the 2nd round irrespective of your score in the 1st(obviously your gui handicap is adjusted)

Had a similar question when I qualified for our captains and beat the CSS on the day.

The reply was that the qualifying and the 'final' were part of the same competition so you held your handicap through until after the second day - only then would the necessary adjustments would be made.

Yeah you definitely keep the same handicap you started the competition with (at least in my club too)

Happened to me last year in the club championship. After Round 1 i was in 2nd or something and my score would have meant me dropping a shot for the second round the following weekend but I remained on the same handicap i started the competition with

That's correct, but if you play a comp other than the captains (like in your example), you must apply the appropriate cut to your handicap using SSS.

They also adjust/cut in my club but I think both days should be treated as part of the same competition without any adjustment until after the competition.
