Taking out probate

Has anyone here ever taken out probate themselves? A recently deceased cousin of mine has named me as sole beneficiary and also as executor of his will. The estate consists of his home and a small amount of cash. The original will is held by his solicitor and he left a copy for me in his personal effects. I would like to hold onto the house for my daughter if possible. I am looking at around 30k inheritance tax and need to save where possible. If I do decide to extract probate myself can I request the original will from the solicitor.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Taking out a Grant of Probate is relatively easy and straightforward and in your particular case as you are the sole beneficiary it should be no bother at all for you.

I did this a number of years ago for my late mother's estate.

Contact the solicitor who has the will and make an appointment to collect it.

Make a phone call to the Probate Office and they will post out all the docs that you will need.

You'll have it done it no time.
    Best of luck with it.
