How to hide software buttons

Luckily I don't have this issue on my OnePlus 3 but my other half wants to hide them on her Moto G4, they really do take up a chunk of the screen. I tried GMD immersion on play store but you have to disable the app to use the keyboard which is a bit stupid. :\ Any other ways?
