    Hello screamer,

In order to apply for Jobseekers from Illness you will need a final cert from your GP to confirm that you are fit for work. Without this DSP will not authorise a Jobseekers payment as you will not be deemed 'fit for work'.

You must present this final certificate to the Department of Social Protection and then apply for a Jobseekers Payment - either Benefit or Allowance based on your PRSI status i.e. how many stamps/weeks left on your 'benefit'.

If you have exhausted your 'benefit' entitlement you can seek to claim Jobseekers Allowance. The main difference between the benefit and allowance payments is that the JA (Jobseekers Allowance) payment is means tested.

DSP take into consideration - savings, investments, property other than your own home and any income either you or your spous/partner have from employment or self employment.

If you are 'caught' in the period between finishing your Illness benefit claim and starting a Jobseekers claim you may be able to apply for a Basic Supplementary Welfare Allowance (SWA) payment from DSP. Again this is means tested.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards
