Air Con in 2013 VW Sharan not working

    Hi all,

I recently purchased a 2013 VW Sharan in the North from a reputable dealer, I also purchased the additional 12 month warranty that covers me down in the South just to cover my ass.

Upon buying the car I never noticed that the air conditioning wasn't working, it blows warm air but not freezing cold air.

The garage has said that they will re-gas the system but from reading up about issues with A/C units, these kind of issues shouldn't be popping up until the car is 5+ years old.

Has anyone had a similar issue with the A/C in their Sharan and if so what was the fix?

My guess is that if the AC has leaked from the system then there's an underlying issue. I priced the re-gas in a VW main dealer here in Dublin and I was quoted €100 but no diagnostics. The sales guy from the garage in the North said he could get the equivalent job for £30-40 and that he wouldn't pay for the job down here as it was too expensive.

Personally I'd prefer to drop it back up to him to get it resolved and should further work be required that no one else has 'tampered' with the car.

Please let me know if you have had similar issues with the A/C units in a Sharan.

Aircon works in a similar way regardless of the car. Normally when there's a problem like this, the first thing is to check is the gas. If it's not the gas, then you're potentially into something more serious. Do you hear the compressor click in and out when you press the econ button (this turns the aircon on and off). If you don't hear the click, it could be an electrical problem.

I've found that main dealers tend to know very little about aircon. You may be better getting a specialist to look at it. It would be cheaper than a main dealer in the long run.

Where are you based ? I can offer to do a diagnostics scan of the car (if you are close by) to at least arm yourself with some knowledge before going with with either of the options you mentioned.

This guy is highly rated here, I used him and he was excellent. If it is more than a re gas he will be able to advise.
