Just got an email to say that there will be no more No more Bt sports or setanta on Virgin Media /UPC

So missing out on over 40 premier league games plus the champions league.

    From e-mail:

At midnight on 31st July, Setanta Sports (including BT Sports) will no longer feature in our Virgin Media TV channels.
With the number of live Premier League matches on Setanta Sports being cut from 71 to 42 for 2016/17, we've been in talks with the broadcaster to review the value you get in this pack. As it was not possible to agree terms to allow us to offer you Setanta Sports at a reasonable price, we'll no longer carry the channels from the end of this month.

Hate those delays the Internet is about a minute behind, not to mention not nearly as reliable

The didn't have BT sport europe last year so I switched to Sky immediately.

    Best decision I've ever made.

There are so many sports channels and pre recording meaning I can record sport that happens overnight that I now don't have to resort to conversing with the rest of the family anymore.

Do you still need a satellite dish to get Sky?

    Sky requires a dish.

Can get it in apartment blocks without individual dishes, if there is a shared dish on the complex.

If sky is not available in an apartment complex they can come out and talk to the management company and see if it can be made available.

Jesus that's a terrible loss for UPC, how did they manage to pull that off? That's me gone to sky so, assuming this happens

    Still have Sky sports yeah.

Get Sky If you can. UPC is terrible in comparison, especially the interface

If you have your broadband package through Eir you retain the old Sentanta channels now branded as Eir + the BT sport ones.

This isn't really about football so I'm going to lock this thread.

There's an an going discussion in the relative Talk To forum for anyone that wants to continue the conversation: http://www.boards.ie/ttfthread/2057623658

Reopening thread after some mod discussion. Would advise though that the Talk To thread is a better place if you're looking for feedback from Virgin.

As much as it sucks, I'd imagine this isn't by choice from Virgin though. I can't imagine they are too happy about this. Upside, as an Eir customer, I'm saving €20 a month now :P

Virgin messed up here, I don't want to miss out on Bt sport champions league coverage, and I'm sure they'll have a couple of decent premier league games too along with other random sport.

If I could move to SKY I would in a flash, but can't get it in the apartment complex so am moving to EIR and saving money even accounting for a cancellation fee from Virgin Media.

Just hope the time delay caused by iptv is not too much

It's brinkmanship from both parties. Wouldn't be surprised if decision is reversed in next few weeks.

I'm someone who suffers from inertia when it comes to switching service providers. I'll keep paying whatever as long as the service is good and I don't have to deal with nonsense.

However, I called Eir yesterday, and have a guy scheduled to come out on Tuesday next week. Bye bye Virgin.

Moving to Sky myself. Should have done it years ago tbh but this has made me finally do it.

Price comparison if you were thinking of moving to EIR (Get Sky Cinema including, EIR/BT Sports and an extra multiroom and still save money over the 18month period, even considering the cancellation fee).

See below some costings for changing to EIR, have included the €200 cancellation fee in my figures. So slightly cheaper to move to EIR even when I added some extras such as Sky Cinema, and an extra multiroom.

Should there be a cancel fee since Virgin have changed their service?

Should there be a cancel fee since Virgin have changed their service?

If you look in Tech/Broadcasting or TalkTo/Virgin forums they claim they haven't changed their service. Their reasoning being that a) SkyMix is a direct replacement for SetantaIRE, and b) the BT stations are a premium add-on the removal of which doesn't count as a core change of service.

Should there be a cancel fee since Virgin have changed their service?

the reps are saying that the add-ons are not under the same T&C as the basic service, and those T&C say that they can replace one channel with another (they are adding Sky Mix to the basic line up, and removing one of the free Eir Sports).

You pay an additional fee for Eir/BT and as that won't eb charged any more then the basic contract still applies.

Please note, this is not a for, not against post, it is purely for information purposes.

People are free to form their own opinion, but I reckon Virgin's legal team have thoroughly vetted the scripted responses in the "Talk To..." forum.

Do Eir provide Sky Sports ? Will they need to get broadband?

Yes Eir TV needs broadband to work. Sky won't.
