    Hi,

Just wondering if anybody here can tell me if Saorview can be received on the Sony KDL-40R453C 40 inch Full HD TV (2015 Model) - Black [Energy Class A+].

It's on Amazon .co.uk but unfortunately I can't link because of my low post count.

    amazon.co.uk/Sony-KDL-40R453C-inch-Full-Model/dp/B00TH5D0DS/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1468708824&sr=1-1-fkmr0&keywords=Sony+KDL-40R453C+40+inch+Full+HD+TV+%282015+Model%29+-+Black+%5BEnergy+Class+A%2B%5D

If anybody thinks I would be better off buying something else please feel free to comment.

On paper yes : it's built with a dvb-t mpeg-4 tuner. However saoirvew's onscreen guide may not be supported.
You could always email Sony UK support and say you're living in the UK and want to return home with the TV

Thanks. Do you mean the telly may not let me select Saorview channels, or that I it might not give me information about whats on?

What's on(epg) which will also limit your ability to pre record. I have a vague memory saoirvew iuses an alternate epg to the UK but Sony support should have the full info

Sony support got back to me with the following:

"With reference to your enquiry, please find below list of available tuners on your Sony TV:
    · DVB-T (digital terrestrial)
    · DVB-T2 (digital terrestrial)
    · DVB-C (digital cable)
    · CI+
    · Analog

Moreover, please note that for the supported video format you may check the below link page 17:

According to the PDF above the supported video formats are:

    "USB Video format
    Playback Photo/Music/Video via USB
    • AVI (.avi)
    Video Codec: MPEG1, MPEG2, Xvid, MPEG4,
    H.264, Motion JPEG
    Audio Codec: PCM, MPEG1 Layer1/2, MPEG2
    AAC (2ch), MPEG4 AAC (2ch),
    MPEG4 HE-AAC (2ch), Dolby
    Digital (2ch), Dolby Digital
    Plus(2ch), WMA v8, MP3
    • ASF (.wmv, .asf)
Video Codec: WMV v9, Xvid, VC-1
    Audio Codec: MP3, WMA v8
    18GB
    D:\SONY TV\SY140226_SE2_SE2N_EU_IM (GB+ML 28)\4562100111_GB\040WAT.fm masterpage: Left
    KDL-48R55xC/40R55xC/40R45xC/32R50xC/32R40xC
    4-562-100-11(1)
    USB Music format
    • LPCM (.wav)
    • MPEG1 audio layer3 (.mp3)
    • WMA v8 (.wma)
    USB Photo format
    • JPEG (.jpg, .jpeg)
    Note
    • Playback of the above file formats is not guaranteed."

Not sure what to make of it as they didn't answer my question about Saorview directly, but I guess if Saorview conforms to standards then the EPG on the TV should work! Perhaps I should ask this question on Amazon's UK webpage.

    what about richersounds.ie?

The Sony looked like a bargain and nearly half the price of it's original release price on Amazon. I can't find any reference to MHEG-5 in the PDF so I think i'll look into a TV which has Saorview approval. I'll check out richersounds.ie.
