Hi all, I'm looking at buying a 02 Fiat Stilo as a first car and when I was talking to the guy selling it, he said the handbreak needed tightening. I'm just wondering if this is a big job and would cost much?

It depends to be honest. The handbrake might need adjustment at the handle which is just playing around with 2 nuts, but if it's already tensioned as much as it can be then it will need new handbrake shoes.

I'm not sure what garages charge but in the first case it's a 10 minute job and in the second case there's a bit more work involved but again, you'd probably fit in around the €80 mark I reckon.

I don't know if the US and euro models are the same but here's a 'how to' I found:

Just be aware the stilo has/had a terrible reliability record so the handbrake might be the least of your worries.
