Just wondering if any of you have built slatted units etc. - once you have the planning permission, did you have to get an engineer in to oversee and certify the work?
    thanks.

Built a good few sheds over the years. Never had anyone sign them off and no problem with planning or grants.

I used to draw them for the old grant, I've one done now for the new grant and the commencement notice is looking for me to fulfill the role of 'designer' which involves me in the build of the shed, which I don't want obviously.

I think the engineers sign off is only needed if you are building a tams shed over an existing tank, the engineer needs to check the tank will withstand the new shed.

I don't believe that's necessary. Anyone can be put in as the designer.

For lean to(or simple steel frame) if eaves height is higher than 4m it is classified as building outside s101 (1m more for portal frames) so building has to be designed by charted engineer. Whether it'll b enforced or not I don't know.

    Yup.

I'm all day looking for concrete certs from 14 years ago for a lean-to I want to put over a slatted feed passage because the tank hadn't been claimed for under the grant scheme in place then. The engineer wants the concrete certs before he signs off but I don't have the receipts as they were sent off for vat reclaim. The accountant doesn't have them either.

My last chance is Revenue having them stuck forgotten in a corner somewhere but I doubt that's going to work out.

The tank was built to grant spec at the time but I reckon the engineer gets told that all the time.

So do I give up or look for another engineer?:(

Revenue always sent invoices back to me, but I'm sure they keep a copy.

Built 8 years ago and had to get an engineer to certify but the eves height is 6 m. He was very exact and had to submit a very detailed report to the dept, he cost approx 1k which was hard to stomach but if i wanted the extra height thats the way it had to be.

You can get concrete strength tested in situ as far as I know. Roadstone did it for me before when a wall didn't look uniform. That'd surely satisfy him
