So my Major 800 topper has a 90 degree comer gearbox on it. Today the shagging casing of the gearbox cracked. Is it possible just to get the casings for these gearboxes or do they charge an arm and a leg? Would it be an easy job for a mechanic to change?

Usually a casing like this is made from a cast part and then the vital refs like faces and holes are finally machined. So yes they should be interchangeable. Would it be worth the effort coastwise, I couldn't tell you.

Sound crowd to deal with , I rang for a part last year , he had it and said he would wait open until I could collect it . Rang me back ten minutes later asking did I live around a certain spot because a neighbour was down and he would send it up with him and I could pay him again when I had more time . He wouldn't have known me too well , I thought it was sound of him !

The individual parts for these usually add up to more than twice the price of an entire box, and more again if you're paying someone else to do the work, buy a new one and use the old for parts later.

Although if there's a crack in it chances are there is internal damage.

It's easy enough ripping them, I've repaired a few in my time, just get a decent circlip pliers and a good hammer!!

With all the **** you'd see on the news it would give a lad a lift and restore ones faith in humanity to see that.
