Changing an Aer Lingus flight

Going to Spain on Tuesday, husband has just heard he cannot fly out with us due to work commitments. I need advice on how to change his flight - he won't be flying out with us, but he will be flying home with us. So I just need to change the flight out. Wondering if he just didn't fly (the flights were cheap) and booked a new flight out when he knows the date, would his return flight be cancelled/or invalidated as he wouldn't have checked in with us. Any advice appreciated.

Contact aerlingus to confirm but depending on the type of booking if you are a no show for the outbound flight the airline will auto cancel the return flight. Better to be safe than sorry. This is a relatively regular occurrance.

Never known for a return flight to be cancelled if a no show for first leg - all legs are separate journeys now.

Years ago when a return fare was cheaper than a single and both legs were considered a single trip it happened, but not anymore.

But still give them a call just to put your mind at rest.

You may find it cheaper to change the ticket as taxes and charges would probably transfer to the new flight

I've seen it happen plenty of times especially if booked as a return flight.

terms and conditions state that if the flights are not taken in sequence, all remaining sectors will be cancelled.

Aer Lingus are pretty good at changing flights - you will probably have to pay a change fee plus any difference in fare.

JFTR, Ryanair treat all flights as separate, I used one of leg a trip to BCN because I ended up going somewhere before it and flying into BCN from there and it was 100% fine.

Yes, because Ryanair are a point to point airline. OP is flying with Aer Lingus.

Aer Lingus short haul flights bought from the website are sold in the same way. I have missed/skipped outbound legs on Aer Lingus with no impact on the return.

Transatlantic flights, connecting flights and flights bought though other channels have different rules.
