    Hi

I need to travel to Yongkang City in China and wondering what tips anyone has to offer as never traveled to china before.

I believe I should fly to Shanghai and get the high speed train to Yongkang City.

Wondering if it is possible to navigate myself without interpreter, how long does it take to get a visa here for travel to China. Anything I should look out for or avoid?

    J

CAN'T GIVE YOU much help as a little distracted

VISA is easy, on both occasions I got my brother to submit - i.e the passport to the embassy so did not even have to travel there - it was available within the week on one occasion and i think exactly a week later the other

Are you travelling alone ? China can be a bit overwhelming just due to the numbers of people . Some younger people will have english, but from my experience are slow to speak it - their studies concentrate on written english so if need be you could write some notes for what you need

you can book the ticket online - ctrip etc, so that might save some hassle. I managed ok on my second trip, but on both occasions i had the use fo a fluent speaker, I know other people have managed it alone, but if work related I would suggest getting all the supports you can

You will receive you visa within 7days, you will have to submit all the paper work along with flight details and if it is a work trip a letter from work detailing the nature of you trip, normally they just require passport, paper work , flight and hotel details, Outside the major cities it would be difficult to get around without a native speaker but not impossible, A lot of younger Chinese people will be able to speak English but as was said already a lot of the time they choose not to speak it unless they want to. All major cities are easy to get around as most will have English as well as Chinese directions, If it is your first visit to china try not to get over whelmed with the amount of people there are, also queueing is none existing so don't be annoyed if someone just jumps in ahead of you while you queue up for something. what I have noticed is that Chinese people are very inquisitive they will look at you while you queue up or purchese something but they do not mean any harm its just what they do, there is a lot of differences between Europeans and Chinese people some will be difficult to get use to but on a hole they are very friendly people, just learn a few words of Chinese before you go and always be polite.
