    Hi,

I am trying to find information about how early can someone go for GNIB card renewal?

I mean before 30 days or 60 days or a week? Cant seem to find the information anywhere

Also have the started charging fee for spouses of Irish citizens? I think it was on the cards to start charging but not sure.

    Thanks

http://www.garda.ie/controller.aspx?page=31 and http://www.garda.ie/Documents/User/Fee%20for%20Certificates%20of%20Registration%202012.pdf will help you.

Currently depending on where you live, you will want to call your official at least 30 days ahead to schedule an appointment at least two weeks ahead of the expiration on your GNIB card. They have to request the card from Dublin and it takes a week to 10 days to arrive, then you'll need to go in again to have your passport stamped and pick up the card. I don't know what they do in Dublin, just as people in Dublin seem to not know what the rest of the country does.

I dont think there's any appointment required in Dublin. For renewal you can to Burgh Key (wed-fri). Not sure how the queues are now. They used to be really bad, in some cases people queuing from 4am or so.

Thanks for the documents. Cant seem to find how early anyone can go for renewal? If someone wants can he go 60 days ahead of validity date for renewal.

The Garda here told me, when I asked him, that there was no point going in that early, since the new card would start from the new approval date and not from the expiration date of the old card.

So if someone really wants then they can go early? In this case someone needs to travel for about a month before GNIB card is expiring. Hence the need for early renewal.

That's different. Call the immigration officer and ask what they recommend doing.

Kind of depends on if they are getting annual cards, or cards that last for 3/4 years.

Going a few months early for a card that will have a life of 3 years is not that big an issue, but 3 months early and the card is only got for 12 months is different.

they have changed the system to appointments only, you cant queue anymore to get a ticket now its by Online Appointments however there is no appointment available until February, the GNIB expires on 2 Feb and I cant get a date before that!

What am I supposed to do?

It's a bit of pain at the moment. I ended up in a same situation like you.

Got the appointment date after the GNIB card was expiring. Went over there with the printout of appointment to ask what should I do. At the reception counter. They said you can come at the appointment date, it will be renewed.

It was renewed, no issue with that. I just explained at the counter that I did check at the reception. Although I ended up having a gap between one visa to another visa.

but its ridiculous because I cannot travel anywhere until this is done because they dont grant you visa until your GNIB is valid for atleast 90 days.
This is supposed to be a convenience for us but its a joke how they run this system

For those that have been to the GNIB renewal process for the retired and of independent means, what does the interview consist of? Any documents needed or is it just a sit down and chat?

If I was you Saphir I would get in contact with the Migrant Rights Centre. It's at 37 Dame Street. They will be able to give the best advice before you get in contact with the GNIB.

Give them a call first, 01 889 7570, explain your situation and let them take it from there. I'm not sure about organisations in Galway.
