Yes, but thats just the data science course. That will count as credit towards the full degree. How much credit I wonder?
The Microsoft course consists of nine classes and a final project. All classes can be audited for free. However, to receive credit toward the Microsoft Professional Degree, students must purchase a certificate for each of the 10 steps of the curriculum.

Although its a bit confusing that they are calling it a Data Science Degree!

Its only a 10 week course (if you were doing it full time) so Id say its useful to supplement existing skills or a base line for a proper degree. Or perhaps for someone interested in a career change.

I think I might do it, I am thinking of a career change and my current distance course wont kick off again til October so I could get a lot of it done part time over the summer. No harm on the CV at all.

It looks like you can take a course or courses at a time at your own pace, but they are delivered between certain set dates.

Id imagine you pay per course.

Just seen that now, I see the deadline is 6 weeks time for each course.

I signed up and clicked audit the course I wonder can you pass from the audit and just buy the certificate then at the end?

I signed up and selected option to pay but there seems to be a glitch where it is telling me I can pay now but not offering any option to pay.

Ah - I needed to activate my account.

In order to "earn a verified certificate" you must
To earn a verified certificate, you must verify your identity with a webcam and a government-issued photo ID.

So Ill do that at home over the weekend.

IS the course even listed yet?

We need to know certain parts of the material covered, but we do not necessarily need certification. Auditing is free, the certifications are what cost the money.

Going to a level 8 degree in September ,but I have an exam to repeat so going to have to give it a miss this time round.Just going through some of the modules it doesnt seem to bad or am I just being naivie ?
    Very tempted to do this.
The people that are doing this whats there expectations?

Im a compulsive distance learner, very rare to find a short course that gives you anything worth putting on the CV so for me its just an added string to my bow to keep me relevant.

Cant imagine its too onerous given the lengths of the individual courses, but how tough it is might depend on how much you already know about some of the concepts.

My team lead is working with Microsoft on relevant software development, and not everyone on the team is fully briefed on the issues involved.

The people that do go along with this and complete the course can they please keep us updated on what they think of the course or other good info.

Strongly considering doing this. Currently in an IT role which involves data migration etc. Can't really afford to go and do a proper MSc in Data Analytics, but this might be a good way to do something on the side and hopefully get my foot in the door somewhere

Im nearly finished the first course (the orientation one).

Seems to me like its pretty simple stuff and a lot of "renaming/putting buzz words on" of the type of work I have been doing for over a decade. So conceptually I think its going to be no problem but the tools have changed and its good to get a look at whats hot now.

Im happy to go ahead to get some kind of recognised certification to put on the CV, and I may also do the one MIT is offering too - similar kind of a price and as the poster above me has pointed out - its handier than a 3 year, 10k UCD Masters in Data Analytics.

    Hey guys,

Just wondering how this course is going? I am about to sign up and I have two questions - Can I start now and take it at my own pace, or does it have to be completed by a certain date? Also, can I complete the coursework and then come back at a later date and purchase all the certs, or do I have to purchase as I go?

    anyone sign up?

Would be interested if the new one is known about? If it's being put on the CV, will those reading it ignore it or not?

For 500 euro it's worth a punt IMO.

Most employers are not familiar with the details of most courses, and I'm just doing this to get a formal stamp on existing experience.

I've signed up too. The main reason is obviously to move into that area career wise. But I am genuinely interested in the field so I'm enjoying it from that perspective. Also I'm hoping the fact that it's backed up by Microsoft will add some weight
