Hi today i picked up a surround sound system at a decent price, its the http://www.qacoustics.co.uk/q7000i-home-cinema-system.htm

But, it came with an extra 2 front or rear sats and a extra center speaker.

so thats 6 front / rear units, 2 center units and one subwoofer.

    questions:

    1. why did original owner buy the extra units?

    2. can I incorporate same into a 7.1 system?

    3. how much for a half decent amp to drive them? (im a complete newby to this)

    Thanks.
Oh and what wires / cables would be needed? only comes with a sub power lead.

1/2 That's definitely a 7.1, however it's odd with two center channels. Perhaps they had the centers wired in parallel because of their relatively small size.
Yamaha rx series is value for money in the 7.1 range : the rx-v579 (old model) is listed on amazon for £269 / €350 the new one is £499/€599.
    3. All you need is regular speaker 42 strand cable or 12 AWG CL2 (taken from another thread, specialised flame retardant cable if you plan on burying /hiding the cables ). The last connection is from the sub to amp which is simple rca cable.

Ok so today I got a AV receiver type yoke.
    Sony str-dn1050 7.2 channel.
Anything I should watch out for or just plug it all together?
    Thanks.

Previous owner may have had high front right/left and a rear centre setup too, loads of configurations available with the higher end amps

Make sure you have the terminal's wired correctly- negative and positive to the correct poles. no copper is touching the back of the amp from the cord. HDMI to tv and plug it in. Use the setup mike and your sorted. If you do get it wrong most amp's auto protect(it locks up) if something goes wrong.

    Looks like I got a bargain !

Speakers and amp all brand new unused in sealed boxes 750

Just gotta plumb it all together now without blowing anything up!
