Missed flight

    Hi just enquiring if i have a leg to stand on. we missed a flight as passport was lost at security screening area. It was not realised until boarding at which time the airport information phone was not answered. we missed the flight as a result. Have i any comeback regarding the unanswered phone?? Passport was returned once we made our way back to security

    Comeback with who? With the airline i would think not. They are not responsible for you losing your passport. The same with the airport.

    You lost the passport but expect the someone else to take the blame for it? Are you serious??

    OP, you are using the passive voice a lot in your post, "the passport was lost", "the phone was not answered", "the passport was returned" - who was responsible for losing the passport? It strikes me that the only thing that could have happened was that it was left in the tray you put your things into when you go through security, as they usually do not check passports.

    That being the case, you've fallen at the first hurdle because it isn't anyone else's responsibility to ensure you take everything with you after you get through security. I can't see how anyone could be blamed for not answering a phone either.

    to be fair to the OP there was one time when i put my passport in the tray and it wasnt there when it came out the other end. In such a situation it would be possible to forget the passport.

    I was watching a programmeon on Heathrow last night.
    A passenger missed his flight, bag had to be removed which took 30 minutes. Passenger turned up but plane had gone.
    The airline was fined £3000 got missing their slot.

    This is why the "final call" goes on for so long. The majority of people who are late have just been a bit absent-minded and will turn up eventually - they've checked their bag on, so they're likely in the airport. Getting someone to find and remove a specific bag is costly.

    I wonder if it would be a good idea to stick RFID scanners all over airports, so if they're looking for someone the scanners can tell you where their passport is.

    This is a classic case of looking to pin the blame on someone else. If you missed your flight because the local taxi company didn't answer the phone when you called them to take you to the airport, could you sue them? Didn't think so.

    If the passport was found by the security staff, they would have no way of determining which flight you were booked on so they wouldn't be able to quickly get the passport down to your gate. You could have been flying with any of the airlines with flights departing from that terminal and there is no central database of who is booked on which flights. You could have been on a charter and not listed on any airline booking system.

    The security teams/shops/cafes are normally very good at paging passengers that leave passports and boarding cards behind - certainly at Dublin Airport.

    I think this goes down in the 'schoolboy error' category and you need to chalk it down to experience.

    I pass through Dublin Airport a lot and security screening is a nightmare, last week I put my belongings in the tray with my wallet under my jacket, the agent just rearranged the items slightly which was fair enough but left my wallet sitting on top of my belongings where anyone could have grabbed it. I was then held up for ages behind some woman at the scanner while they made her take off various bits and pieces of jewellery until it stopped going off. Meanwhile my belongings were shoved down to the end of the belt out of my sight while a load of people were scrambling around stuffing their belongings into their bags and pockets. Anyone could have grabbed my wallet while I was helplessly stuck in the queue, the staff were too busy yakking to one another to watch what was happening.

    Why didn't you leave your wallet in the pocket of your jacket - or do like I do and shove it into a zip pocket on your bag? The only things that they insist on you putting visible on top of the tray is your laptop/tablet and the transparent bag with your liquids, anything else (keys, coins, wallet, mobile phone) can be contained in a jacket or in your bag, there's no need for your wallet to be exposed in the way you described which I agree exposes it to nimble fingers at the other end of the conveyor in the event the line gets delayed.
