    Hi all.

I've never had my car server by an official dealer.. it's normally my mate who is an mechanic or my local garage..

I got a new car a few months back.. ( new to me.. it's 131 Hyundai i40.. I had it in EP Mooney for an issue and they did a "free" health check and advise I get it serviced... they said a normal service cost was €289.. it sounds high to me but wanted to know what others though as I've never had a service in an official place.

    Thanks

That's the Hyundai menu price for a first service in an i40 alright, so it is comparitive amongst main dealer prices.

It'd be no harm to get your 131 serviced at this stage tbh and that price boils down to €95 a year in servicing which can hardly be considered steep.

The i40's are all on 30k/ 2 year intervals so they get a fair bit of stuff when they do get a service. I think a 30k is oil, air, brake fluid and 1.5 hours.

That's an expensive service. In dealer -v- independent, the price of parts will be a bit higher as they will be branded parts. Labour cost will be fairly high as main dealer rates are very high. Work done will be the same.

There's 2 service stamps in the service history from koping motors.. so I think it's had services before.. also service from place to bought it.
But that was only oil change I think..

For service items branded parts aren't always that more expensive than spurious, sometimes they can be cheaper.

Due it's 3rd service at that point. €289 is good for a 3rd service. That's oil, air, fuel iirc.

That is true for some brands but not Hyundai. Kia/Hyundai parts are very expensive. Oil filters aren't too bad but genuine Hyundai fuel and cabin filters generally cost twice or three times as much as good quality aftermarket brands.

24 months/30,000km between services seems excessive. I see that on the Hyundai website.

Is that the norm for other brands now also?

Some manufacturers ar at 30k service intervals based on longevity of synthetic oils.
    Personally, i wouldnt though.

Hopefully not too old a thread to add my question. Looking at websites, I see Hyundai are indicating that service intervals are at 30k/24 months. The dealer told me that I need to get the (first) service at 20k. Is there a difference between the first and subsequent services?

Yeah, alll the services are different, based on mileage more items are replaced as time goes by. The first isn't due until 30k but no harm in doing it at 20k if you are that way inclined.

Well, I'm approaching 21k and Christmas has me broke. :)
