swimming workouts/technique

    Hi all.

    Find myself swimming a bit more the ladt few weeks and really enjoying it. Am an average swimmer (I think) 1min 55 for 100m.

    Anyone got some suggestions for some good one hour workouts. Currently try doing 10 X 100m with 30sec rest but this is getting a bit boring.

    Other question is a book on technique. Swimsmooth versus total immersion. Any recommendations or other suggestions?

    100,75,50,25 X 6

    10 X 50 drills

    Cool down 100-200

    They can get boring especially swimming alone, try and join a masters group. I'd recommend getting a video analysis. Some work shops run by Charlie Naughton down in Athlone can be very beneficial. It's a days course plus you get lunch , think it's around 100 euro but well worth it.

    Thanks for that, looks great. What kind of rest b tween each rep and set? Something g like 10 secs and 2mins?

    Some good workouts here - you'll have to modify the distances to get a session done in an hr but the basic setup of each session can be used - http://www.marathonswimmers.org/forum/discussion/9/the-lunchtime-set-thread/p1

    Thanks for all the replies. Tried that workout mad m and clearly I have a lot more fit essential work to do. Actually took me longer to do than if I had swam the same distance as an endurance session.

    Ended up getting the swimsmooth book and a pull buoy. Question about fins......Ss strongly recommend them but can't find any in the usual Dublin sports shops. Can order online etc but just wondering if people find them essential for technique work as im not sure the pool will always let me use them. Thanks.

    They are essential if you are doing drills, they give you that extra help until you can do drills without the need of fins..

    I thought I seen couple of pairs in Elverys or lifestyle one day, speedo fins.

    Swimfit.ie out in the NAC will do fins.


    10 x 25 on 40 warm up

    3 x 400 on 8:00

    5 x 100 IM on 2:15

    200 catchup
    200 kick
    100 sculls
    100 fists

    4 x 75 fast 1 min rest after each

    Cool down

    Thanks. Will head out next week. Anyone know if pools and specifically sportsco allow them during public sessions?

    I'd say it would all depend on how much grief the lifeguards would be getting from the others in your lane. (if any)

    I quite like the Swim Coach tool from Speedo for generating workouts (though it has a limited number, so after a while you'd be repeating if you swim regularly):

    Talked to a friend today and Sports co don't allow fins. Anyone know a public pool, ideally in dublin city or south, that allow fins?

    I've seen them used in Trinity, but I've had hassle there with overtaking.

    Just to answer my own question.......finally got to use them last night. What a difference. Flew through the drills and I think my kick go better after as well. Less movement and faster
