The last movie you really looked forward to?

Going back to 2006/2007 I remember mutterings of a new monster movie that was coming out. The internet hype became immense and I found myself engaging daily with forums around the globe trying to piece together the plot and helping to find clues scattered across social media and and strings of websites that were set up for promotion under the guise of legitimate businesses. It was a giant puzzle and finally came to fruit in the form of 'Cloverfield'.

I found that the whole puzzle solving experience and build up around the movie left me in awe. And disregarding anyone's perspective of the movie itself, the experience sold it for me.

Since then, I haven't found another production that put as much effort in to it's pre-launch marketing and while there's movies I want to see there's been none as much as that and I find the same old re-hashed movies flood the screens week in week out.

So tell me, what was the last movie that you genuinely got excited for?

I love comic movies in general so I was super excited for Civil War and Batman vs Superman.

My inner child was super excited for Jurassic World too (I loved it).

Star Wars: The Force Awakens was another huge one.

In terms of movies that got me excited via their pre-release PR stuff though... I can't think of any. Can't think of any that have done a good campaign that has gone beyond normal trailers etc.

Avengers Assemble was the last one for me.
Two friends and I (ooooh so fancy) went to see it the day after it released, first time in years any of us had been to the cinema.

Deadpool was another one, didn't think I'd have to wait so long for it. :D

I've looked forward to others since them but with "that could be enjoyable" rather than proper excitement.

Probably The Force Awakens, almost child-like level of unbearable anticipation for that one.

I look forward to most movies but I don't get wildly enthusiastic about the majority of them anymore, and can take or leave them in the cinema.

I think now, I look forward to new seasons of TV shows a lot more than I do movie releases - particularly the expensive stuff like Game of Thrones.

Next one for me that I'm quite excited about is Rogue One.

The new Tarzan looked good on the trailers....

But what a let down.... A real Turkey for Christof Schultz. He should beg to take him back!!

Watching Johnny Weissmuller versions was a more pleasurable experience... Even his special effects was better. Even Samuel Jackson should have known better... Jumping into a jungle treetop is just pushing my imagination too far?!!

Pretty much always a good list I'm looking forward to in the near to mid term (plus just generally looking forward to whatever the world's many great directors have cooking). Had rather long waits to finally get around to seeing the likes of The Assassin, Anomalisa, Arabian Nights, Boy and the Beast, No Home Movie, Embrace of the Serpent, Taxi Tehran, Tangerine, Son of Saul, Our Little Sister etc etc within the last year or so :)

Given it's that unfortunate 'post-Cannes' period that roles around every year, there's definitely plenty already on my 'must watch' list for the guts of a year. Toni Erdmann, The Handmaiden, The Red Turtle, After the Storm and lots more on top of them. I retain some degree of hope I will finally get to see Right Now, Wrong Then one of these years too :(

So yes, it's incredibly rare that I'd have anything near a shortage of films to properly look forward to. Huzzah for cinema!

I was so excited when War of the Worlds came out. I was hoping that they would follow the story of the Jeff Wayne version and was picturing hearing the music in scenes but no, they went with the typical divorced father finally bonds with his kids route.

Last movie I was genuinely excited for was The Nice Guys. I could not wait for that movie to be released from the moment that I saw the first trailer.

Dark Knight Rises. I was counting down the days to it. Managed to avoid teaser trailers. Went to see it 4 times in the cinema. Wasn't as good as I'd hoped, but still deadly.
Thought I'd be excited about Suicide Squad, but after seeing the the trailer, I don't think I'll bother with it. Joker is ridiculous, Will Smith can not be a baddie, and that gangly fella from The Killing and Robocop is just ridiculous.

I rewatched all the bourne movies in the last few weeks and they are still brilliant. So I'm really looking forward to the new one coming out. I still find matt damon a very charismatic actor still capable of carrying a movie.

Out of nowhere I got really excited about Man of Steel. Never been a huge fan of superhero films but I guess I've always had a thing for Superman in all his forms. I got tickets for an afternoon showing on it's opening day, which is about as early as I'm going to see a film, no midnight screenings for me.

In a similar vein I'm mildly excited about Suicide Squad although I do fear that Jared Leto's gone way over the top with his Joker, but we'll wait and see.

I'm genuinely excited about seeing A Monster Calls later this year.

Probably The Witch. I'm a big folk horror fan and the early word on this was really strong, the trailers were fantastic and the interviews with the director were interesting.

    I loved it.

Next one I'm hyped for is Cafe Society. I'll always be excited about a new Woody Allen film.

As a kid , the Idea of a judge Dredd movie seemed awesome , never really delivered though.
