German pay-TV broadcaster Sky Deutschland will make its sports news channel Sky Sport News HD available as a free-to-air service.
The encryption will be dropped on all distribution platforms in early December 2016

    might the same happen here

    I wouldn't bank on it.

It would be nice in some ways, like when it was on Freeview.

However if you watch it, it is just a trailer system for Sky sports channels rather than a objective / independent sports channel

Just look at when a match is on BT and it barely gets a mention

I recall the German version being FTA for a few months before. It's quite good if you can get past the language barrier.

Sky Sports News (UK/Ireland) was on Freeview for a while but was pulled

Your spot on, If a match or sporting event isn't on sky it barely gets a mention. On a Saturday final score on BBC is the best place to be.

Ye, I remember that and was great to have, they replaced it with Pick tv or Challenge I think.
At the time I don't think Challenge was fta on satellite.
