There was a nerdish discussion yesterday about whether the US Federal Communications Commission had abandoned/sidestepped economics (cost benefit analyses) in applying its Net Neutrality rules last year.

The three economists present were miffed that the primacy of economics (their economics) to determine the outcome of regulatory deliberations was not absolute.

Luckily, Harold Feld was there to represent consumers, start-ups and small business.
“The manufacture of this as Tom Wheeler [Chairman of the FCC]as some sort of mad FCC Robespierre with his citizens committee of Commissioner Clyburn and Commissioner Rosenworcel decapitating innocent corporations in the name of populist outrage makes for a charming picture, and I have no doubt is generally shared by people who enjoyed policy dominance in the previous decade who now wonder that the world has changed,” Feld said.
