Driving test not conducted - insurance disc green band

    Hey everyone,

My friend recently attempted to do his driving test.
He had trimmed the green band on the disc as it made the disc bend when placed into the holder for display purposes. The other functional parts of the disc were still clearly on display.

When the instructor saw the lack of green band, the test didn't go any further (instant fail).

When prompted for the purpose of the green band on the side of the disc, the instructor said he wasn't aware of any, only that it was a requirement.

    Has anyone else encountered this?

This thread might be of interest:

Cutting the insurance disc was foolish however, so it's not terribly surprising that this was an issue.

    (2) Every insurance disc shall be of paper with a white background and with a green band not less than 8mm wide and not more than 12mm wide extending along and left hand side.

I have the same issue in that disc doesn't fit so I just fold the paper with the green bit folded behind. Not strictly legal but at least I can unfold if needed.

I thought the enforcement was a bit draconian, but at least he knows now.

Hopefully this thread will help serve as a future warning to others.
