Fixing a deep bite

Over the last 10 or so years my molars have worn down through night grinding and also from the over adjustment of a couple of crowns (I think done to avoid recurrence of TMJ problems). Then a few months ago I had some pain in a filled molar when biting/eating. My dentist filed away part of the cusp to "take the pressure off it". Then a couple of weeks ago I got a new crown on the other side of my mouth but it was huge! The dentist adjusted it as much as she could but it was still too big so the opposite tooth was adjusted, again the cusp was filed down. Again I think too much was done as they now don't even touch. As a result of all of this, when I bite, the tops of my bottom front teeth are touching the back of the upper front teeth.

Can anyone please advise on what sort of treatment might be done to restore the bite. Would I need to see a specialist or could my regular dentist do something? Actually going back to see her this week but would like an idea of what sort of treatment might be an option.

    Any advice appreciated. :)
