So I've decided to throw off my console peasant ways and become a god. I've never built a desktop before so after a couple of days I've come up with this provisional build. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Build is sound, you could get the Motherboard, RAM and CPU sold by amazon for about £5 more if you would prefer that.

Switch the GPU to a GTX 950 or else wait for the R9 470/460 in a few weeks.

The 950 will play most anything at Med-High 1080p60 which is good performance for a cheap card

Thanks for that. I was half thinking about a gtx970 but it kinda feels like overkill for what I'll be using it for. I'll wait on the video card as you say see how the 460/470 look.

Nah 970/480 level cards are the sweet spot for maxing out 1080p

What about the r9 380, seems like a decent price? Or would you stretch it for the 970?.

380 is another good card, fairly strong for 1080p as well.

I'd go 380/380X but that's because I don't like Nvidia, a second hand 970 or new 480 are the best value for maxing 1080p, the 380 is a very solid performer and will push most games no problem.

The price of the GTX970 has dropped to as low as €230 recently, it's a solid best and way, way faster than an R9 380 class card, the price to performance ratio is in it's favor. It will run any game at 1080p ultra handily enough.

Or an RX480 either, but that's a good chunk more expensive again and isn't much faster really.

Welp ordered all parts except the GPU and monitor and I'll probably order the monitor this weekend. No great rush on the GPU since there'll be some movement on prices when the 480 comes out might get a good deal somewhere on a 970 fingers crossed.

RX 480 is already out though.

Just wondering how badly will performance be gated by the i3 6110?. I mean is there any point getting a GTX970/RX 480 with that processor or will it be fine?. Secondly, if I did get one of those GPU will the cooling I have be sufficient i.e one cooling fan with case etc?.

In some CPU bound games you'll be held back, but for the most part you'll be okay. I could run the Witcher 3 and GTAV no problem on an i3.

The cooling will be fine with both I would think. I've a 290 which is a damn hot card and it's over clocked to it's max and runs okay with two fans, takes a long time to hit 90°C, I doubt your cards will hit that

Perhaps another option. Theres a gtx 770 4 gb going for 120 on adverts. Would suffice. Seems ligit.
